Summer Mission Trip

A week long commitment to be God's hands and face in service to the poor, elderly and marginalized.

Mission Trip 2019..... Indianapolis, Indiana!

Our 2019 Summer Mission trip will be the week June 9-15, 2019.

We have been working hard to prepare for this camp.  And we have had several very successful Fund-Raisers.   The Cupcakes for Camp and the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry were a success because of the People of St. Edna.  We are also grateful for the continued support of the Women of St. Edna (W.O.S.E.) Guild 5 for their generous donation.  Thank you to all who are helping us with the year's camp.

Information about upcoming CHWC 2019 meetings and events:

  • A short meeting will be held on May 19 in the Parish Center.  At this meeting, we will pick vans, discuss our free day, and address other questions and issues.
  • We will gather for a special blessing and send off at the 5:30 PM Liturgy on June 2.  All campers are to wear this year's team shirt to this Mass.
  • June 8 is Pack the Vans:  All campers need to have their gear here at St. Edna between 6:15 and 7:00 that evening.  We will not pack vans with anything but back packs and humans on the morning of June 9.
  • June 9:  Departure will be at 9 AM.  All campers and chaperones are to be at St. Edna's east end parking lot by 8:45 AM.
  • June 14 return.  Plans are currently at us arriving back at St. Edna late Friday evening.  Estimated arrival home is between 7-8 PM.

The History of our Mission Trips

In 1998, St. Edna Youth Ministry paired with the organization Catholic Heart Work Camp (http://heartworkcamp.com/) to offer a service experience for the teens of our Parish.  Since then this summer trip has become an important annual event in our Youth Ministry.  From our start, with 12 teens and 2 adults, we have grown to 50 teens and 10 adults for this summer's camp.  In all St. Edna Parish has had an estimated 525 campers and 100 adults being Stewards of our Faith, working to help people maintain their dignity, and their homes.  Camp in 2019 will be St. Edna's 21st year of partnering with CHWC for our week of service.

What do we do at Camp?  We join people from other Catholic Parishes (usually 300 people at a Camp) and paint, plant, weed, sort, clean, serve, and do repairs in homes, shelters, daycare centers, playgrounds, Churches, outreach centers, and anywhere else we are sent.  (Local social service agencies pre-select our clients.)

Where is Camp this year?  As noted above, we will be traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana next summer.  This area is a socially diverse community.  This is the first year CHWC is having a camp in Indy and we are excited to be part of this new site.   We will not know what next summer's projects will be....those plans are in God's hands and the hands of the local social service agencies.
