Before we know it, the holidays will be just around the corner.  The Gift of Love Committee will be meeting to plan for this season.  Gift of Love is a program that provides food and gifts at Christmas to those individuals and families who are most needy in our community and at our sharing parish, St. James in Chicago. At our meeting, we will discuss the program and sign up for various volunteer positions.  The meeting will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 7:30pm in the Hurley Center.  If you would like to volunteer your talents or just find out what the Gift of Love program is about, please plan to attend.  If you have any questions, please call Cindy at (847) 398-3362.

Program Overview

Gift of Love is a program that provides food and gifts at Christmas time to those individuals and families who are most needy in our community and at our sharing parish, St. James in Chicago.

This is a wonderful opportunity for St. Edna parishioners to sponsor a family and share with those who have little in the way of material goods.

Gift of Love 2016 - Thank-You!

St. Edna Parish is so very generous!  This year through the Gift of Love program, we helped make the Christmas season a little brighter for 47 families from the St. Edna area, 49 families from our sharing parish St. James in Chicago, and 15 residents at Little City in Palatine.

The Doherty Center was a flurry of activity December 3rd and 4th.  On Saturday morning, parishioners dropped off over 600 boxes filled with gifts and food.  A heartfelt thank you goes out to every parishioner who sponsored an individual/family or donated money or food certificates.

There were so many people that helped make the Gift of Love such a success this year.  Many hard-working volunteers from the parish helped unload cars, pack, stack and count boxes, shop for and wrap last minute gifts, and load up the truck.  Thanks to all of you for your help!

Saturday afternoon we had a wonderful party with Santa and his elves, who took time from their busy schedules to meet with our families picking up their gifts. Special thanks for the warm scarves and hats lovingly made and donated by our Crochet Club.  The families are so appreciative of your generosity.

St. Edna Volunteers Loading the TruckSt. Edna Volunteers at St. James

Sunday morning, we loaded up two trucks and took boxes full of food and gifts down to St. James where we later distributed them.  Thanks to the huge group of volunteers that helped load everything in record time.  This year our trucks and drivers were donated by the Moran family from Moran Transportation.  We are very appreciative of your generosity - thank you so much!

We owe many thanks to the staff in the office, Gail and the maintenance crew, and of course the very hard working Gift of Love Committee.  Thank you one and all!

St. Edna continues to be blessed with caring people who demonstrate the true meaning of Christmas.   Special blessings to all of you during this wonderful Christmas season.
