Staying In Touch - Fr. Benedykt Pazdan

Background

Fr. Benedykt Pazdan came to St. Edna in the summer of 2011.  In the summer of 2012, he was appointed as the Pastor of St. Bernadette parish in Evergreen Park. Though he was with us for only one year, he touched all of us with his spirit and energy.

Farewell Message

Sunday, October 28, 2012

Dear Friends of St. Edna's,

The time to say goodbye has come much sooner than I had ever expected. It's been only one year and four months since I began my ministry here at St. Edna's - a short time indeed, but what a beautiful one! You have been so welcoming to me. You have received me as your own. You have allowed me to enter into your lives on a very deep level in many circumstances. You have surrounded me with your love and prayers as well as my father when he most needed it. Because of it, I feel honored to have been part of this parish and I am forever grateful! Be assured that I will not look at this short assignment here at St. Edna's as a transitional one. I will take with me many wonderful memories. I have learned so much here and it is because of the enormous activity under the great leadership that takes place here - all for the greater glory of God.

I would like to thank my brother priests who have been my mentors and friends here at St. Edna's, especially Fr. Jerry who has offered his wisdom and unique style of pastorship which has increased my understanding of what it means to be a shepherd of souls. I am thankful to Fr. John and the late Fr. Gene, both of whom offered a great witness of many years of faithful ministry as priests of Jesus Christ. I would like to express my gratitude to our deacon couples, staff, and all the leaders of our parish for their support, collaboration and hard work in bringing the love of God closer to the hearts of St. Edna's people and the whole community. I think that all the priests who have been assigned to St. Edna's would agree with me that this community is truly living out the Gospel values and it has been a great joy for me to be able to witness that and be part of it.

You have become my family in this short period of time and I feel I'm leaving my home and family all over again. But as you know, a good family consists of brothers and sisters who visit one another. You are all invited to visit me at St. Bernadette's in Evergreen Park, IL anytime. If you wish to be part of my installation Mass, please know that you are all invited. It will take place on Saturday, December 1st at 4:00pm with Bishop Andrew Wypych as the main celebrant.

Flavia Weedn, an artist who grew up in Los Angeles during Post-Depression years, once said:

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.

Please know that you are the people who left many footprints of love on my heart. I will miss you!

May God continue to bless you and your families.
I love you all!

Peace,
Fr. Benedykt Pazdan
